Rome, 08 April 2022 – The new European launcher Vega C, developed by Avio, has been selected by the European Commission and the European Space Agency to launch, in the first half of 2023, the Sentinel 1C satellite for Earth observation through synthetic aperture radar technology. The satellite, which will be positioned in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 690 kilometers, will be added to the already operational Sentinel 1A and 1B. The satellite will have environmental monitoring and security applications.

Avio will be involved on the production of the P120C+ boosters, an upgraded version of the P120C

Rome, 25 March 2022 – In relation to recent articles appeared on the press concerning the potential impacts of the on-going Ukranian conflict on the operations of the Vega launcher, Avio confirms that at present no specific impacts on Vega and Vega C continuity of operations are foreseen in the medium term.

Rome, 25 February 2022 – Concerning the recent dramatic events in Ukraine, at present there are no issues on continuity of operations of Vega.

We will continue to monitor the situation and inform on further evolutions of the above status.

Ten years have passed since the first flight of the Vega. The European rocket developed by Avio within the framework of the European Space Agency programme has carried out several types of mission, demonstrating its versatility and paving the way for its first evolution, Vega C.

Rome, 20 January 2022 – At the end of an intense 2021 with 3 successful Ariane and 3 successful Vega missions in about 6 months, Avio announces the signature by Arianespace of several new launch service contracts for Vega C, whose maiden flight is now expected in May 2022.

ESA’s Vega C launch vehicle will fly in the second quarter of 2022 offering more performance to all orbits and extended mission flexibility at a similar cost to the current Vega. A new contract aims to widen these mission capabilities to capture new opportunities and satisfy emerging market needs to 2027.

At the event, organized by Avio at Italy Pavilion at Expo Dubai, Space economy, Techology and Sustainability in space and from space topics have been covered.

During the recent meeting in Rome between Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, and Giancarlo Giorgetti, Italian Minister of Economic Development, Stéphane Israël, CEO of Arianespace, and Giulio Ranzo, CEO of Avio signed an agreement with Avio to start production of 10 new Vega C launch vehicles.
